Luzador: Un Guerrero del Sol. Luchador para La Luz. “A Warrior of the Sun, Fighter for the Light”

Luzador est. 2021.

Luzador means “a warrior of the sun” — a fighter for the light.

Created by La Luz Selections, Luzador is a collaborative wine project built around freshness, farming, local varieties, and women-led winemaking. Each wine begins with a simple idea: work with thoughtful growers and winemakers to create honest, vibrant bottles that feel alive, generous, and rooted in place without becoming precious about it.

Luzador Tinto began as an exclusive collaboration between the Andrés sisters, Los Hermanos Navarrsotillo, and La Luz Selections. Produced during the strange stillness of January 2021, it became a wine shaped by resilience, light, and the kind of farming that requires real commitment rather than marketing confetti.

The fruit comes from organically farmed and biodynamically worked vineyards in the DO Navarra, mainly in the Ribera Alta de Navarra between the Ega and Ebro rivers. The vineyards sit around 300 meters above sea level, with soils made up of clay, gravel, and limestone. The climate is Mediterranean in spirit, but moderated by cold winters and the freshness of northern Spain.

Navarrsotillo’s farming is rooted in observation and self-sufficiency. The vineyard cycle begins with soil analysis and careful pruning, followed by cover crops, crushed vine shoots, compost, and biodynamic preparations made on the farm. Throughout the growing season, the team monitors vine health, soil moisture, and grape ripening closely, always working within the rhythms of the natural cycle.

The result is a red wine that reflects both place and purpose: fresh, grounded, and expressive, with the warmth of Navarra carried by the lift and energy that careful organic and biodynamic farming can bring.

Luzador Branco expands the project into Portugal through a La Luz collaboration with Natalia Jessa of GOTA Wines, one of Portugal’s most exciting tastemakers.

Sourced from selected vineyard parcels in Portugal’s Tejo region, Luzador Branco comes from sandy loam soils with alluvial influence, where the nearby Tejo River helps preserve freshness through warm growing seasons. The wine is made from Fernão Pires, one of the region’s signature white varieties, and Moscatel. Fernão Pires brings citrus, floral lift, and texture, while Moscatel adds aromatic intensity and a bright tropical edge.

The varieties are fermented together in stainless steel to protect freshness, aromatics, and energy. A short skin soak adds texture and lift without weighing the wine down, followed by six months on lees before bottling. The finished wine is dry, 12.5% alcohol, with clean acidity and a vivid aromatic profile.

Luzador Branco is bright, oceanic, and built for immediate pleasure: citrus peel, white flowers, mango, pineapple, sea spray, fresh acidity, and a dry, refreshing finish. It is generous without being heavy, aromatic without being silly, and dangerously easy to finish before anyone at the table has the dignity to pretend they were pacing themselves.

The Luzador Spirit

Whether red or white, Luzador is about collaboration, farming, and light. The project brings together La Luz Selections, women winemakers, local varieties, and farmers guided by organic and biodynamic principles. These are wines made for the table: fresh, textured, expressive, and full of the kind of energy that reminds us wine does not need to be complicated to have meaning.
