Buelan Compañía de Sacas

Music, friendship, and the extraordinary wines of Andalucía.

Musician, Sherry obsessive, and founder of Kingston, NY's Mirador Sherry bar, Nick Africano created Buelan Compañía de Sacas to celebrate the remarkable wines and people of southern Spain.

Since 2019, Nick has worked alongside some of Andalucía's most respected winemakers, selecting exceptional barrels of Sherry that capture the character of individual vineyards, historic bodegas, and the people who care for them. These are small-production wines, deeply rooted in place, bottled with minimal intervention and an enormous amount of personality.

The name Buelan comes from an old Spanish spelling of vuelan, meaning "they fly," inspired by a drawing by Francisco Goya. Compañía de Sacas refers to the art of selecting and bottling individual releases from the cellar.

Nick's Las Canciones series brings his two passions together: music and wine. Each release is inspired by a song, an idea, or a moment worth remembering. The first, Mirador Manzanilla, began with a song Nick wrote overlooking the Alhambra in Granada in 2019.

Produced in collaboration with Luís del Río of Bodegas del Río in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Mirador draws from Palomino vineyards rooted in the chalk-white albariza soils of Miraflores Baja, just seven kilometers from the Atlantic. Aged beneath flor, the wine captures the maritime character and remarkable traditions of Sanlúcar.

For Nick, Sherry is as much about friendship, music, and storytelling as it is about the wine itself. We couldn't agree more.
